How on earth do you find an octopus while diving at sea?
I've been diving for 3 years and I can not find an octopus!
In Hawaii, when we went to spear octopus, come at low tide. In general, the squid are there "home" at low tide and hunting for food during high tides. Octopuses live in holes in rock, no coral reefs, shallow (I noticed it said on the high seas). Because they feed on crabs and shellfish, you can find their homes in similar areas that you would find crabs, lobsters, etc. The holes often have multiple entrances and is usually found in areas flat rock. A typical hole in the one living in an octopus has a lot of small stones, shells and debris around the main opening. Many times the rubble has been discarded and crushed shells of past meals. It takes a while to recognize what these houses look alike. Many times you will not be able to see the octopus when you look in the hole because they are confused as well and the octopus is a highly intelligent animal. Keep looking and is very likely to get the "eye."
